Meghalaya is a dream destination for every landscape photographer and every person who wishes to experience the surreal pristine nature in its untouched form. This is a 4 night 5 days expedition to Cherrapunji (Sohra) of Meghalaya and will cover some of the most iconic destinations that sought after by photographers. We will be covering several waterfalls, caves, sunrises, sunsets and landscapes. The plan includes visits to Prut falls, Mawsawa falls Janailar Falls, Diengdoh falls, Lyngksiar Falls, Garden of caves, Arwa cave, Mawlynnong root brige, Nohkalikai falls, 7 sisters - Mawblang site, Kharmih park, Wei Sawdong and Dianthlen. Immerse yourself in 5 days of divine experience in the abode of clouds.

Getting Ready

Things to carry:

  • DSLR, Mirrorless Camera, Wide angle lens
  • Carry fully charged batteries for your camera
  • Carry battery charger. Carry extra pack of camera batteries
  • Carry backup memory cards / HDD storage drives, Laptop
  • ND filter (minimum 3 stops, we recommend 6 stops) and polariser filter (like CPL)
  • A sturdy tripod is a MUST.
  • Shoes: Gumboots are always good, wear non-slippery footwear
  • Wired/wireless remote trigger, camera timer will also work.
  • It is advisable to carry basic first aid along with you.
  • Do carry protective rain gears (Umbrella must) for yourself and for your equipment. We find Ponchos very good.
  • Please carry microfiber cloth/small towel to quick wipe camera from rain drop
  • Carry basic first aid kit, carry your regular medicine. Carry mosquito repellent creams.
  • Drinking water/eatables.
  • Walk: Moderate / Climb: Moderate

Itinerary

All the guests are requested to reach Cherrapunji (Sohra) by afternoon. You may opt to travel via Shillong or Guwahati. Guwahati has more flight options. 

After arrival, complete your check-in formalities, relax in cottage, explore locally around the cottage. Evening Tea with Welcome session by our panel expert followed by dinner. Go for an early sleep. A long expedition is on your way.
 

Wake up early in the morning and have your tea / coffee. We will visit to Garden of Caves with packed breakfast. We will have permission to have an early entry in the garden when visitors are not around. Once we are done with our photography there, we will move ahead to shoot Prut falls, Mawsawa falls Janailar Falls, Diengdoh falls, Lyngksiar Falls depending on how much time we have in hand. We will then move to have our lunch. In the evening, we will visit the famous Nohkalikai falls. Our expert will be there in every step throughout the day, to handhold and help you make some stunning images. Come back to resort in the evening for a review of images taken dduring the day followed by dinner.

Wake up early in the morning and get ready for a long journey. We will be traveling to witness and photography the iconic Mawlynnong living root bridge. We will have lunch at the Mawlynnong village, the cleanest village of Asia. Following lunch we will return and visit Arwa caves. Our expert will guide you in making different frames and composition throughout the day during your shoots. Come back to resort in the evening. Informal discussion over dinner and hit the bed.

We will wake up by 4:00 am to visit 7 sisters - Mawblang site to catch the amazing sunrise. Come back to resort for lunch. In the evening, we will visit to Kharmih park, Wei Sawdong, Dianthlen for making some memorable images in each of these locations. Come back to the resort for a relaxed evening followed by dinner.

Meet over breakfast for a relaxed morning, chit chat and some group photos to carry your memories back home. Our expedition will end here.


Field Learnings

On field learning from the experts is said to be one of the best methods of improving your skillsets. The Landscape Photography maestro will hand hold you at every possible step for a better understanding of perspectives, camera controls and how to make use of the best opportunities to get better images. The training will focus on the following

  1. Framing and composition in the field
  2. Image processing workshop
  3. How to get ideal exposure without exposure bracketing
  4. Capturing Elements in frame
  5. Shoot against light specially during sunrise and sunset
  6. Taking sunburst

To maximize and complete your photographic learning, join our evening session of informal discussions on digital image processing. Our Expert will work on few of his own images or a few of yours (which you have clicked during the day) and demonstrate various techniques of image processing to give a final shape to your artwork. The following will be discussed

  1. RAW files processing
  2. Histogram and exposure control
  3. Colour correction methods
  4. Cropping and image resizing
  5. Sharpening, cloning, dodging and burning
  6. Noise reduction
  7. Composition
