About The Tour

Mamdapur Conservation Reserve in the Yeola district of Maharashtra is spread across of 54 square kilometres of area. This is an excellent place to see and photograph large herds of blackbucks. The vast grasslands are a perfect habitat for them. Along with other grassland wildlife, which includes, Hyena, foxes, wolf, Jackal, wild cat, civet cat, hare, mongoose, porcupine, chameleon, etc. The large open grounds also provide a great opportunity to observe and photograph variety of avifauna. The place is away from any urban settlement and the nights are pitch dark providing excellent opportunity for night sky observation and astro photography.

Getting Ready

Things to carry:

  • Telephoto lenses – preferably above 300 mm 
  • Wide angle lens for astro photography 
  • Carry fully charged batteries for your camera / flash.
  • Carry battery charger. Carry extra pack of camera batteries
  • Carry backup memory cards / HDD storage drives, Laptop
  • Carry a bean bag to stabilize your gears while shooting from safari vehicle
  • Carry a big towel / cloth to protect your gear from dust
  • Carry a big cloth / bandanna / scarf to protect you from the dust
  • Sturdy tripod for astro photography session 
  • Remote shutter release (preferably with cable)
  • It is advisable to carry basic first aid along with you.
  • Please carry Odomos to keep you protected from mosquito bites.
  • Carry a pair of good binoculars

Itinerary

Reach Rajapur blackbuck sanctuary, near yeola by 4.30 pm post refreshments and briefing. We leave for evening mammal and bird photography session in our vehicles. We return after dark. By 8.30 pm, we will have dinner. Post dinner we leave for the exciting night trail and a startrail photography session. 

The area is free from light pollution and provides excellent opportunity to do night sky observation and astro photography.

Target species in the night trail – Indian fox, Chameleon, nightjar, owlet, hyena and many other macro subjects.

We will be staying in the forest dormitory.

We get up early in the morning at 5 am and after getting freshen up and tea/coffee we leave for early morning mammal photography shoot.

On foot target species – foxes near the den, jackal pack and blackbucks. We return to tents for breakfast by 7.30 am, post breakfast we leave for blackbuck photography in our vehicles. We will explore different zones of the sanctuary to shoot good images of blackbucks and other wildlife.

By 12 pm our camp concludes.


Field Learnings

On field learning from the experts is said to be one of the best methods of improving your skillsets. Our Wildlife Photography Expert will hand hold you at every possible step for a better understanding of perspectives, camera controls and how to make use of the best opportunities to get better images. The training will focus on the following

  1. How to approach Wildlife in the field
  2. Different modes of shooting (Av / A, Tv / S, M and P)
  3. Exposure control in field under difficult light conditions
  4. Mastering metering techniques (Spot, partial, center weighted, evaluative)
  5. Mastering auto focus, focusing points, AF locking and focus tracking for moving subjects
  6. How to get sharp images of moving subjects
  7. Framing and composition in the field
  8. Ethics in Wildlife Photography
  9. Star trail photography technique and processing
