About The Tour

Jejuri is a small town about 60 kms from Pune city. The place is famous for Lord Khandoba, a folk deity of 9th century. Lord Khadoba temple in Jejuri is the most popular place where he is worshipped though there are more temples in Maharashtra and Karnataka. During Somvati Amavarsya, which is a new-moon day that falls on a Monday, a huge festival is organized in Jejuri Khandoba temple. The name “Sonyachi Jejuri” (meaning Golden Jejuri) comes from the golden hue of the turmeric play that happens during the festival. Large amounts of Turmeric powder are thrown in and around the temple on that day. Devotees bathe in yellow colour and the entire thing is a great photographic opportunity for a travel photographer. Not only turmeric festival, but also many other religious and ritual acts like self-torture are practiced during the festival. A palakhi (palanquin) procession of Khandoba and Mhalsa’s images is conducted through the temples in Jejuri and Khandoba is brought back to his temple before the end of Amavasya.

All DCP tour are well planned this was no exception. But what struck me the most is the Mentor Mr Pankajji was not busy clicking photos ,in fact did not open his camera ,but was busy guiding participants about compositions, angles , camera settings , on spot review of images and recommendations etc This was my 3rd trip with Mr Pankajji and I find him a good teacher and easy to approach open and transparent person I have learned a lot by going with him on various short photos trips mostly about street photography I enjoyed the trip and all participants also jelled well and helpful to each other
