The Maha Kumbh Mela is the largest congregation of people in one place on the earth. The Hindus take bath in the Holi rivers to wash off their sins. People from all over the country and also from abroad gather for this globally known spectacular festival. For a travel photographer, it’s a spectrum of opportunities which comes once in every 12 years.

Panel Expert - DCP Mumbai

Pankaj Narshana is a Mumbai based full time commercial photographer.  He was interested in drawing and painting from his childhood days, he says that photography is similar to painting and drawing as these require similar levels of imagination and an eye to bring out the beauty of this world. Pankaj is a self taught photographer and his main areas of interest in this field are Travel and Street photography. This talented photographer is associated with DCP Group as a Panel Expert - Team DCP Mumbai

Bamrauli Airport is located approximately 13 km from the Prayagraj city

Its easier to travel to Prayagraj via train as there are major railways stations like Prayagraj Junction, Prayag Station, City Station at Rambagh and Daraganj Station.

You can take the route by road avail bus services operated by Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC)

Getting Ready

Things to carry:

Wide angle lens
Tele / zoom lens for candids and portraits
Carry fully charged batteries for your camera / flash.
Carry battery charger. Carry extra pack of camera batteries.
Carry backup memory cards / HDD storage drives, Laptop.
Carrying a Tripod for the sanctuary
Carry a big towel / cloth to protect your gear from dust.
Carry a big cloth / bandanna / scarf to protect you from dust.
It is advisable to carry basic first aid along with you.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Allahabad and check in to our tent. Take some rest and then join the evening session exploring Kumbh Mela. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.

Day 2

After breakfast, we will be going out. Its going to be a long day of exploring Kumbh Mela. Visit nearby places like Akshya Vat, Hanuman Temple, Allahabad Fort etc. Later back to the camp for lunch & rest. In the evening, we will visit camp of Akharas. Dinner & overnight stay at the camp.

Day 3

Early in the morning proceed for the Holy dip (Royal Bath) at Sangam. Full day to explore the Kumbh mela, get interaction with Sadhu/Mahatma, and participate in Ganga Aarti at Sangam. Dinner & overnight stay at the camp.

Day 4

After Breakfast, visit Kumbh Mela Area, various camps & meet Naga Sadhus. Visit Mahamandaleshwar camp & various Akharas. Return at Camp, have dinner and over night stay at the camp.

Day 5

After breakfast check out from camp for onward journey.

Field Learnings

On-field learning from the experts is said to be one of the best methods of improving your skill-set. Our expert will hand hold you at every possible step for a better understanding of perspectives, camera controls and how to make use of the best opportunities to get better images. The training will focus on the following

How to approach people in the events
Different modes of shooting (Av / A, Tv/ S, M and P)
Exposure control in field under difficult light conditions
Mastering metering techniques (Spot, partial, center weighted, evaluative)
Framing and composition in the field
Ethics in Streets and Travel
