This is a 2 nights 3 days of Wildlife Photography Expedition to Jim Corbett National Park, the oldest of all the National parks in the country. The expedition package includes 6 safaris (inclusive of one from gate to Dhikala and one back) with 4 photographers in a jeep. This expedition will be conducted in association with OM Systems India, where all the participants will have an opprtunity to get a hands on experience on the latest OM Systems cameras and lenses throughout the expedition. This is an all inclusive expedition package ex Delhi.

About The Tour

Jim Corbett National Park, the oldest of all the National parks in the country, established in 1936 as Hailey National Park located in Nainital district of Uttarakhand state. This beautiful and well maintained park is the only one in the country where you get an opportunity to stay deep inside the forest. The travel to the Dhikala rest house on Day 1 and the way out on the last Day are not just travel to and fro. They are a brilliant safari experience. It is an exposure to unique wildlife photography opportunities at one of the best national parks of the country to photograph birds, mammals and landscapes all in one place via direct handholding by our mentor.

Getting Ready

Things to carry:

Reach Delhi by afternoon a day prior before 11 am. We will travel together roadways to Ramnagar. Arrive at Ramnagar by late evening. Our representative will escort you to Serenity Corbett Resort.

Things to carry

  • Telephoto lenses – preferably above 300 mm
  • Carry fully charged batteries for your camera / flash.
  • Carry battery charger. Carry extra pack of camera batteries
  • Carry backup memory cards / HDD storage drives, Laptop
  • Carry a bean bag to stabilize your gears while shooting from safari vehicle
  • Carry a big towel / cloth to protect your gear from dust
  • Carry a big cloth / bandanna / scarf to protect you from the dust
  • Sun screens are very important
  • It is advisable to carry basic first aid along with you.
  • Please carry Odomos to keep you protected from mosquito bites.
  • Carry a pair of good binoculars

Itinerary

Reach Delhi by afternoon a day prior before 11 am. We will travel together roadways to Ramnagar. Arrive at Ramnagar by late evening. Our representative will escort you to Serenity Corbett Resort. Have dinner and take rest. Join the team next day morning for breakfast. We will leave for Dhikala as early as possible. As we enter Dhangarhi gate in an open 4 wheel drive Maruti Gypsy, the adventure and wildlife safari to Corbett begins. The drive to Dhikala is 32 kms from the gate. We take a very slow and leisurely drive. We will be stopping at places on the way to photograph birds and landscapes. The Himalayan foothills are one of the natural wonders of the earth, with lush Sub Tropical forests and the bountiful Flora & Avi Fauna that is a tribute to the nature lover and the photographer of the wild. The Dhikala Forest rest house has a fantastic setting overlooking the Ramganga reservoir and the opportunity to see wildlife in its natural habitat is immense. As you reach the rest house, take some rest and join the group for lunch. An evening Jeep safari to the grasslands called "Chaurs", for a chance sighting of the elusive Tiger- now the cynosure of every tourists questing eye. Dhikala rest house is encircled by a solar fence for your safety - it is an unforgettable experience to sit out on your verandah and enjoy the wild sounds of the night.

Overnight stay at Dhikala Forest Lodge.

An early morning Jeep safari into the wilderness of Corbett and beyond, is the most promising way of tracking Tigers in Corbett besides other mammal species. For bird watchers Corbett is a paradise. An evening Jeep safari along the rippling Ramganga river, crossing the river at the Gathiarao fair-weather bridge to the Kanda range where Jim Corbett shot the famous Kanda man eater. The opportunity to observe & photograph wildlife in its prime habitat, is an experience one succumbs to without much hesitation. Later in the evening watch a film on the conservation efforts in Corbett Tiger Reserve.

Overnight stay at Dhikala Forest Lodge.

We will have breakfast and checkout early. Enjoy the jeep Safari in Corbett National Park, with its varied topography, diverse flora & fauna, the beauty of the meandering Ramganga river, the natural splendor of its landscapes, the Park is a precious heritage. We explore the Bijrani and Jhirna areas. With the possibility of seeing 05 species of Kingfishers, Pallas & Himalayan Grey headed Fishing Eagles, Osprey, Crested Serpent Eagle and of course the Mammalia, the Safari is truly magical. The unending stretch of the virgin Sal forests, the vast texture of massive trees, plumage's of peacocks dragging the forest floor, the images of Deer jumping across the forest track, all make a tour to Corbett Tiger Reserve a veritable paradise for the avid wildlife photographer.

Reach Ramnagar by late afternoon. From Ramnagar, we will catch the cabs waiting for us for our drive back to Delhi.


Field Learnings

On field learning from the experts is said to be one of the best methods of improving your skillsets. Our Wildlife Photography Expert will hand hold you at every possible step for a better understanding of perspectives, camera controls and how to make use of the best opportunities to get better images. The training will focus on the following

  1. How to approach Wildlife in the field
  2. Different modes of shooting (Av / A, Tv / S, M and P)
  3. Exposure control in field under difficult light conditions
  4. Mastering metering techniques (Spot, partial, center weighted, evaluative)
  5. Mastering auto focus, focusing points, AF locking and focus tracking for moving subjects
  6. How to get sharp images of moving subjects
  7. Framing and composition in the field
  8. Ethics in Wildlife Photography

Please take a note that sighting of a wild animal and / or a good photography opportunity to capture it in an ideal frame is a matter of luck. Though the possibility of sighting is high but it can never be guaranteed in the wild.
