Bera is a small village situated in the Aravali region of Rajasthan, hardly visible in a map, very close to Mount Abu Hill station. Little known to the world even a few years back, the village is today, a Wildlife photography hot spot. Star attraction - Indian Leopard (Panthera pardus), called panther by the locals. The Leopards are commonly found in open degraded forest areas and open rocky terrains, adjoining the village itself thus etching your Leopard photography experience as a lifetime memory. Many of the villagers, having been guides for the British hunters, are experienced trackers & know their Cats very well. And since there is only one type of Tree called “Khejri” or “Sangri” in this area, leopard sightings are highly rewarding.
The Jawai Dam is one of the largest man made dams of Western Rajasthan, built by the Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur. It is also a Marsh Crocodile Sanctuary where you can see more than 15 crocodiles basking at a single spot, if lucky. In spite of the hostile terrain & extreme climates, Bera is an abode for various ungulates, including the “Neel Gai” or Blue Bull. On a clear night, one can spot various animals, herbivores & carnivores, during the night safari at the banks of the Jawai Dam itself. Bird life of Bera is also simply outstanding. Spending a few hours near few of the lakes and smaller water bodies can be highly rewarding. Come join us at the very thrilling DCP Leopard photography camp at Bera.
