Panel Expert - Wildlife Film Making and Photography

Mayuresh Hendre is an award-winning wildlife filmmaker, photographer and a naturalist from Mumbai, India. He is also a well-known name in the field of camera trapping and his passion has taken him to some of the most remote and beautiful locations in India and beyond. For several years, he has worked as a Naturalist, Photographer and Filmmaker in various parts of India, especially in North-East India, on the Brahmaputra River Landscape of Assam. He has been instrumental in developing exemplary wildlife lodges in India with first-ever camera trapping and animal photography hides in India with water hole. He is a seasoned camera trapper with expertise in DSLR Camera Trap technology on the trails of Tigers and Elephants. We are proud to have him as a Panel Expert - Wildlife Film Making and Photography.

It is recommended that you reach Delhi International Airport an evening prior (reach by 10 pm). From Delhi to Ramnagar is around 6 hours of pleasant drive and all can travel together (not included as a part of package).

Nearest railway station is Ramnagar. Arrive at Ramnagar early morning. We will pick you up from Ramnagar.

Getting Ready

Things to carry:

Your DSLR / Mirrorless camera
Wide angle lens
Carry fully charged batteries for your camera / flash.
Carry battery charger. Carry extra pack of camera batteries
Carry backup memory cards / HDD storage drives, Laptop
It is advisable to carry basic first aid along with you.
Please carry Odomos to keep you protected from mosquito bites.
T-shirts/sweatshirts, light-weight long trousers and warm long-sleeved shirts
Rucksack (even though you will have porters carrying luggage, it is a good idea to carry rucksacks if not then a duffle bag)
Wind Proof Jackets/ Rain gear (a must)

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival and introduction

Afternoon: Arrival and Check-In

Participants arrive at Jamoon Bush Lodge, Corbett National Park.

Distribution of workshop materials and kits.

Introduction by Mayuresh Hendre, Camera Trapping Expert and Workshop Leader.
Overview of the workshop objectives and schedule.
Introduction to camera trapping: history, evolution, and its importance in wildlife research.
Building and deploying Camera Trap Setup in the field

Evening Walk and Orientation

Short nature walk around the lodge to introduce participants to the surrounding habitat.
Discussion on wildlife behavior and tracking signs in the Corbett landscape.

Dinner and Bon-fire night

Informal dinner where participants can interact with each other and the instructors over the Bon-fire and a sky full of stars.

Day 2 - Fundamentals and initial field work

Morning Field Session - Wildlife Behavior

Early morning guided walk focusing on identifying signs of animal activity.
Practical session on selecting camera trap locations based on animal behavior and movement patterns.

Field Session - Camera Trap Installation

In-depth session on camera trap equipment: setup, configurations, and troubleshooting.
Ethical considerations and best practices for camera trapping.
Participants install camera traps in pre-selected locations, applying the learning.

Evening Nature Walk by Ramganga River

A Short nature walk by the Ramganga river to watch the setting sun as well as capture some wildlife activity on your cameras.

Screening of wildlife footage/photos captured by camera traps in Corbett and other regions.
Q&A session and group discussion on the day's learning.

How Does It Work?

Short-term Setup (Up to 1 Month):

Choose a single location for your camera trap setup.
Jamoon field assistant will help you set up, test sensors, and monitor the trap.
Weekly visits by Jamoon team will ensure everything is functioning smoothly, with data sorted, batteries replaced, and images uploaded to you.

Long-term Setup (More than 1 Month):

Opt for multiple locations to move your setup after a month, at a nominal relocation cost.
This allows you to capture different backgrounds, landscapes, and potentially new species.
Jamoon team will handle the relocation, maintenance, and data transfer, ensuring a seamless experience.

Important Considerations:

Camera trapping comes with its challenges, such as false triggers, weather impacts, and potential wildlife interference. While we take every precaution to secure your equipment, risks like theft or destruction by elephants are inherent. We strongly recommend insuring your equipment to cover any unforeseen losses.

Package Cost

Rs 43,000 per head inclusive of all taxes (on twin sharing basis)

Inclusions:

Transfers to and fro Jamoon by 4 WD Jeep
Accommodation per night on twin sharing basis in luxury tented cottages
All meals at Jamoon for the duration of the stay, inclusive of Hi-Tea, riverside breakfast, bush dinner and barbeque during bon-fires
Camera Trap Equipment for every participant including flashes, sensors, triggers and housing.
Camera Trapping and Photographic guidance of DCP Photography expert
Installing camera traps on Jamoon’s private land, including transporting of equipment to field with additional porters (if needed) to tow equipment up mountains or through forest

Please take a note that sighting of a wild animal and / or a good photography opportunity to capture it in an ideal frame is a matter of luck. Though the possibility of sighting is high but it can never be guaranteed in the wild.
