About The Tour

One of India's largest salt deserts, The Great Rann of Kutch offers a hypnotizing stark contrast of white sands against deep blue sea waters. The vast stretches of the pristine salt beds are ogten known as the ‘White Desert of India’. Its a rich treasure of culture, history, art and tradition. The unique folk music, the handcrafts, the vibrance of the festivals all together make it an immersive experience. For a travel photographer, this 3 nights 4 days expedition has too many things to offer. Starting from portraits to candids, from actions to long exposure photography, this is going to be a memorable experience.

Pankaj Narshana is a Mumbai based full time commercial photographer.  He was interested in drawing and painting from his childhood days, he says that photography is similar to painting and drawing as these require similar levels of imagination and an eye to bring out the beauty of this world. Pankaj is a self taught photographer and his main areas of interest in this field are Travel and Street photography. This talented photographer is associated with DCP Group as a Panel Expert - Team DCP Mumbai

Getting Ready

Things to carry:

Wide angle lens
Tele / zoom lens for candids and portraits
Carry fully charged batteries for your camera / flash.
Carry battery charger. Carry extra pack of camera batteries.
Carry backup memory cards / HDD storage drives, Laptop.
Carrying a Tripod for the sanctuary
Carry a big towel / cloth to protect your gear from dust.
Carry a big cloth / bandanna / scarf to protect you from dust.
It is advisable to carry basic first aid along with you.

Itinerary

Day: Arrival - Bhuj

You will assisted with your pickup from Bhuj airport / railway station / bus stop. After checkin, enjoy some free time at the accomodation. Later visit the Rann Utsav celebration. Explore abundant photo opportunities at the White Rann and nearby towns, especially during sunset. Return to the accomodation after exploring the local market and Kutchi cultural program.

Day 2: Dholavira

Wake up early in the morning to photograph the mesmerizing sunrise of the Great Rann. After a good breakfast, we will be exploring Harappan site, Fossil Park (guided tour) and the Dholavira lake. After lunch we will be visiting the white sand area. Our expert will be hand holding you to capture one of the best sunsets again the white sand of the Great Rann.

Day 3: Explore Bhuj and depart

Wake up early to capture the first rays of the Sun and witness how the White Rann transforms to a golden landscape. After breakfast, we will be exploring Bhuj today. We will be visiting Khari River Grand Canyon, Aina Mahal, Swaminarayan temple and Bhujidi handicraft village offering great photo opportunities.

Our expedition comes to an end end here. Head back to the train station / airport to take your respective trains / flights back home.

Field Learnings

On-field learning from the experts is said to be one of the best methods of improving your skill-set. Our expert will hand hold you at every possible step for a better understanding of perspectives, camera controls and how to make use of the best opportunities to get better images. The training will focus on the following

How to approach people in the events
Different modes of shooting (Av / A, Tv/ S, M and P)
Exposure control in field under difficult light conditions
Mastering metering techniques (Spot, partial, center weighted, evaluative)
Framing and composition in the field
Ethics in Streets and Travel
