Awards Day - Launching Diversification
(Entry by invitation only)
DCP Expeditions LLP today, is one of the fastest growing Wildlife Photography Training academies in India, with a strong team comprising of highly skilled and established photographers of the country and veterans in the field of digital photography. For every workshop we conduct and every expedition or photo tour we lead, in addition to the development of photographic skill sets, conservation photography remains one of the key learning element. We help people to learn how to make better images and how to use photography as a tool to depict the untold and unseen beauties of nature. We work in association with environmentalists, conservation activists, naturalists, scientists and researchers in an attempt to impart knowledge and generate awareness amongst common man about the earth’s natural history.
We have been known for this and we will continue to focus on this core area of activity even in future. However, being a photography training academy, we have decided to diversify too. To be honest, we have done it already. However, we thought that this would be the right time and platform to launch our diversification plans on this day and we have a day full of activities - workshops, talks, slideshows, product demos and what not. To facilitate this objective, we have a few invited guest speakers for the day, who are eminent personalities in their respective fields of expertise.
Mr Diinesh Kumble, based in Bengaluru, is a renowned name in the field of Wildlife Photography. In the early 1990s, while persuing his masters in Chemical Engineering in the US, he got started in this journey. His forays into the wilderness of India and Africa during 2000 - 2006 reestablished his faith is persuing this passion full time. In 2009, he published his first book, 'Dream Safari - A Journey through Africa's Cradle of Life' and thereafter it was never looking back. Many budding Wildlife Photographers of today get discouraged to persue the passion because they fail to figure out on how to monetize their talents and make a sustainable career out of it. Diinesh is a live example and an idol to follow. We are fortunate to have him with us for the evening as one of our Guests of honor and he has also agreed to share his views about his story in the field of Wildlife Photography with all of us as the day event progresses.
Mr Sundeep Bali is a Carl Zeiss Lens Ambassador, based in Delhi and is an ace commercial photographer in the field of Fashion, Wedding, Event, Food and Product Photography. He is a Fulbright Fellow in Visual Arts and has been a Hasselblad Masters semi-finalist which is perhaps the best recognition for creative innovation and technical expertise in the world of Photography. Bali has been proactively working towards photography education and is currently the Lens Ambassador for Carl Zeiss, the iconic lens-manufacturer, in India. On the education front, he has been formatting and conducting modules / workshops for corporates as part of their CSR agenda and small groups of keen photographers including expats. Sundeep too will grace the evening ceremony with his presence and we are thrilled to have him with us during the day event as well. He has a very interetsing talk to deliver to all our people who are invited for the day event, which will open up the door of the industry to our people.
We also have Rohinton Mehta, with us for the day, a living encyclopedia on art and science of photographic techniques. Genius is an understatement for this maestro, Uncle Ronnie, as the world calls him. He is the Technical Editor of Smart Photography, India s number 1 imaging magazine. If you are a subscriber of Smart Photography, you must not miss his regular column Ask Uncle Ronnie. For over 35 years of his experience in the field of photography, he has taught thousands of students and photo-enthusiasts through his brilliant workshops and articles. His ability to simplify complicated technical jargons in an easily understandable way is simply unbeatable. His session is a very interesting one - we have named it as Tech Talk - Photography.
We also have Mr Digant Desai, who is India's one of the best Marine Photographers, who have agreed to share his experience and stories with us that day. Digant Desai is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished Marine Photographers from India having reached an international acclaim. Marine life and the under-water world have been a childhood fascination for Digant. Having seized every opportunity to gather information and study this wonderful world, it has been his heartfelt desire to pursue scuba diving and capture some of these awe-inspiring sights on camera. Backed by this passion, past 40 years of age, Digant finally took the plunge, quite literally, in 2006 and has since been photographing this wonderful world and its even more beautiful creatures. He has won international and national awards and has been penning articles for various wild life and other local and international magazines. He was also on the team as the primary photographer while exploring the Angria Banks on a project by NIO. The world needs to know more about this stunningly beautiful parallel world and it is Digant's mission to showcase the same through photographs, help raise awareness and preserve this for future generations. We are honored to have Digant with us for the day.
We have Manfrotto, ViewSonic and Olympus teams around with some amazing products to show to all the invitees. Overall, its going to be grand even before the grand evening starts.

The categories of selection are (1) Editor’s choice. It’s a single image (or at times two) which is handpicked by our team every month as the most outstanding image of the month. This could be by an amateur, or by a panel expert or by any professional in our group. The image is selected on the basis of multiple qualities which not only includes technical perfection, but also the uniqueness of the content and the difficulty level involved in making the image. We have 17 nominated images in this category competing now. (2) Best upcoming talent is the next category. We select 7 images in this category every month. So we have a total 84 nominated images in this category over a period of 1 year. DCP panel members’ images are excluded from selection in this category. (3) Best of the team is the third category. This category too has 84 nominated images of our Group leaders and Skippers, (4) Natural History, 84 images here as well - wherein the images are selected solely on the basis of natural history and biodiversity importance and not necessarily on the photographic technique, (5) The Strokes of a Stalwart, in order to acknowledge the masterpieces of the DCP panel experts – 84 nominated images here again, (6) Genius Juniors – this is very a new category and we have 6 nominated images from the photographers of age ground below 18 years and lastly (7) The Scintillating Seniors. They are our most valuable assets, our idols whose work we admire. Their work deserve higher pedestals than any contest and this category has 15 nominated images from those photographers.
