DCP Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2018
The categories of selection were (1) Editor’s choice. It’s a single image (or at times two) which is handpicked by our team as the most outstanding image of the month. This could be by an amateur, or by a panel expert or by any professional in our group. The image is selected on the basis of multiple qualities which not only includes technical perfection, but also the uniqueness of the content and the difficulty level involved in making the image. (2) Best upcoming talent is the next category. We display 7 images in this category – 1 winner and 6 special mentions. DCP panel members’ images are excluded from selection in this category. (3) Best of the team is the third category. This category too has 7 images (1 winner and 6 special mentions) of our Group leaders and Skippers, (4) Natural History, 7 images here as well - wherein the images are selected solely on the basis of natural history and biodiversity importance and not necessarily on the photographic technique, (5) The Strokes of a Stalwart, in order to acknowledge the masterpieces of the DCP panel experts – we have 7 images here, (6) Genius Juniors – this category displays best images from the photographers of age ground below 18 years but we dont have any entry this month in this category (7) The Scintillating Seniors. They are our most valuable assets, our idols whose work we admire. Their work deserve higher pedestals than any contest and this category will display few such best images from those photographers. The newest category is the (8) Mobile Phone Photography in wildlife.
DCP Travel Photographer of the Year 2018
We also have awards to be given in the travel photography category. We have five categories viz. (1) 1000 Words - where the images are selected primarily based on the story that they convey (2) Innovative Perspectives, where creativity in terms of unique perspectives are given a lot of importance, (3) Technical Expertise, where the images are selected based on the technical perfection that the images convey, (4) Beautiful Locations, where the images depict the beauty of a location and virtually take you there and lastly, (5) Mobile phone photography where we see some brilliant images being made using mobile phone cameras.
