DCP Photographer of the Year 2017
DCP Annual Awards Night 2017 presented by Manfrotto and cosponsored by Creative Peripherals and Srishti Digilife showcased DCP’s Top Wildlife Photographers of the Year 2017. The much talked Grand Annual Awards Night was recently concluded on 14th October 2017 (Saturday), at Hotel Fortune Exotica, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. It was a fantastic gathering of nearing 200 talented photographers under one roof. Inspired by the grand success of Manfrotto DCP Annual Awards 2015 and 2016, we wanted this year’s event to match the set benchmark. We thank Mr. Mukul Kashyap and the entire team of Manfrotto for the continuous motivation and the support which helps us to challenge ourselves every time to make it better. 2017 was a grand success !!!

DCP School of Travel Photography, although a new division, but already has more than 7000 photographers, who are doing some stunning works. The event showcased DCP's Top Dozen Travel Photographers of the Year 2017. Viewers were mesmerized by the supreme quality of the nominations. The Winner of the Grand Title, Travel Photographer of the Year 2017 was Mr Prasad Malgaonkar. Congratulations Prasad. The Runner Up, Grand Title was bagged by Mr Pulak Nath. Other ten top Travel Photographers included Mr Ashish Chalapuram, Mr Rizwan Ali, Mr Dipen G Shah, Mr Pankaj Veerkar, Mr Ayaz Bambotia, Mr Pankaj Narshana, Mr Dhritiman Lahiri, Mr S M Rezaul Haque, Mr Pratik Chorge and Mr Rajesh Jyothiswaran. Congratulations on all of your grand success.
DCP School of Wildlife Photography has now reached more than 26,000 members. Every month we come across some brilliant images made by all DCPians in our social media platform and we acknowledge those images in the form of “Photos of the month”, thus exposing them to a wider audience. The monthly winners competed for the Grand Annual Contest. Out of 22,272 total submissions that we received over a year, 428 winning entries of DCP Photographers of the Month for the last 1 year (September 2016 to August 2017) were considered for nomination. The entries were judged by an eminent jury panel consisting of few of the most eminent photographers of the country, viz. Mr Rohinton Mehta, Technical Editor, Smart Photography, Mr Kiran Poonacha, Ace Bird Photo Photographer, Mrs Rathika Ramasamy, Ace Wildlife Photographer and Mr Nayan Khanolkar, BBC Wildlife Photographer, 2016.
Best of the team category includes the images by our Group Leaders and Skippers. We have 84 images in this category. Best of the Team DCP Winner was Ripan Biswas and Runner Up was Omprakash Ghosh. Best Upcoming Talent category includes the images posted by the DCPians. DCP panel members’ images are excluded from selection in this category. We also recently had a wildlife photography contest in Nashik and the winners of the contest have got wild card entry in the category and we have a total of 95 nominated images in this category. The Best Upcoming Talent, Winner was Mr Shariful Islam, while the Runner Up was Mr Sandip Guha.
In Natural History category, the images are selected solely on the basis of natural history and biodiversity importance and not necessarily on the photographic technique. We have 85 images in this category including one wild card entry from Nashik contest. Natural History Winner was Mr Ketan Vikamsey and Runner Up was Agnishwar Ghoshal. The Stalwart category includes images from the panel experts of DCP. The Winner in the Strokes of the Stalwart category was Mr Yuwaraj Gurjar while Sangram Govardhane bagged the Runner Up award.
Seniors - they are our most valuable assets, our idols whose work we admire. Their work deserve higher pedestals than any contest and this category has 56 nominated images from those photographers. In the Seniors category, Mohan Thomas won the Winner Title while Ritesh Nangare won the Runner Up. The Juniors vcategory is relatively a new category and we have 5 nominated images from the photographers of age ground below 18 years. Parth Vikamsey was the Winner in Junior category while Pradyuman Samant was the Runner Up.
The Editor's Choice is a single image (or at times two) which is handpicked by our team every month as the most outstanding image of the month. This could be by an amateur, or by a panel expert or by any professional in our group. The image is selected on the basis of multiple qualities which not only includes technical perfection, but also the uniqueness of the content and the difficulty level involved in making the image. We had 22 nominated images in this category. The Editor’s Choice Winner was Sudhir Kendhe and the Runner Up was Mazhar Nibras.
