Every month we come across some brilliant images made by all DCPians in our social media platform and we have been acknowledging those images in the form of “Photos of the month”, thus exposing them to a wider audience. These monthly winners competed for the Grand Annual Contest. Out of 14,400 total submissions that we received over a year, 347 winning entries of DCP Photographers of the Month for the last 1 year were considered for nomination. The entries were judged by an eminent jury panel consisting of few of the most eminent photographers of the country, viz. Mr Rohinton Mehta, Technical Editor, Smart Photography, Mumbai, Mr Kiran Poonacha, Ace Bird Photo Photographer, Bengaluru, Mrs Rathika Ramasamy, Ace Wildlife Photographer, Delhi and Mr Dhritiman Mukherjee, Ace Wildlife Photographer, Kolkata.
All images were scored from 1 to 10 by the Jury where 10 is the best. The highest score given to an image in a category was considered as 100% percentile score. Selection was purely done based on the total of the percentile scorings done by all four judges. DCP management was excluded from the nominations. The categories of selection were Genius Juniors, Scintillating Seniors, People’s choice, Natural History, The Strokes of a Stalwart, Best of the team, Best upcoming talent, Editor’s choice and The DCP Photographer of the Year 2016.
Genius Juniors – this is very a new category and we had only 6 nominated images from the photographers of age ground below 18 years and lastly. Master Jay Udhwani grabbed the Winner’s trophy for his image of the pack of spotted deers in the Genius Juniors category while Miss Kruti Parekh won the Runner Up trophy for her closeup shot of the Short Toed Snake Eagle. The Scintillating Seniors. They are our most valuable assets, our idols whose work we admire. Their work deserve higher pedestals than any contest and this category had 15 nominated images from those photographers. Mr Mohan Thomas’s image of the African Lion won in the Senior’s category while Mr Ritesh Nangare’s image of the ODKF was the Runner Up.
Best upcoming talent is the next category. We select 7 images in this category every month. So we had a total 84 nominated images in this category over a period of 1 year. DCP panel members’ images are excluded from selection in this category. Best Upcoming talent, Runner up was Rayees Rahman while Anuj Malik bagged the winners trophy. Best of the team is the third category. This category too had 84 nominated images of our Group leaders and Skippers, Ripan Biswas got the Runner Up Trophy in Best of the team category and Rupankar Mahanta won the Winners Trophy.
Natural History, 84 images here as well - wherein the images are selected solely on the basis of natural history and biodiversity importance and not necessarily on the photographic technique. Kaizer Kabir from Bangladesh won a Runner up trophy in Natural History category while was the winner in this category. The Strokes of a Stalwart, in order to acknowledge the masterpieces of the DCP panel experts – 84 nominated images here again, Kane Lew was the Runner Up Stalwart of the year while Tejas Soni grabbed the Winner’s trophy.
We conducted an online contest from 10th October 2016 till 10th November 2016, powered by Manfrotto. This was an open contest and the best of the slow shutter photographs published in social media pages (Facebook pages, Twitter handles, Instagram accounts) with hashtag of #manfrotto #dcpexpeditions were judged. The winners were decided not only based on People’s Choices in the form of likes but also they were judiciously evaluated based on our panel expert’s opinions. Sangram Govardhane was the Runner Up in People’s category while Prashanth Petteri won the trophy in this category. Editor’s choice. It’s a single image (or at times two) which is handpicked by our team every month as the most outstanding image of the month. This could be by an amateur, or by a panel expert or by any professional in our group. The image is selected on the basis of multiple qualities which not only includes technical perfection, but also the uniqueness of the content and the difficulty level involved in making the image. We had 17 nominated images in this category competing now. Editor’s choice Runner up was Tejas Soni and Soumabrata Moulick was the Winner in Editor’s choice category.
